A man had his lip bitten off during a brutal assault in Blackpool town centre.

Victim Richard Minor, 26, from Stoke-on-Trent, was assaulted at around 2am on Sunday, June 23 somewhere between Dickson Road and Bank Hey Street when he was out celebrating his friend’s birthday.

Following an altercation a man is believed to have bitten his bottom lip causing a significant injury which required surgery and for which he continues to receive treatment.

Mr Minor said: “We were out enjoying the night, not looking for trouble, I never expected to be assaulted like this. I’m still being treated for my injuries and may suffer permanent scarring. Unfortunately I didn’t get a look at the male who did this to me.”

Police are today appealing for information following the incident.

Det Con Clare Wilson, from Blackpool CID, said: “This was a particularly vicious attack in the town centre on a busy night. Assaults involving biting are thankfully very unusual in Blackpool; we hope that anyone who was at this incident would remember it.

“Anyone with information can contact me directly by calling 101.”
