Police have appealed for information after vandals caused more than £500 of damage at an award-winning park’s community vegetable garden.

Yobs struck at Park View in Lytham destroying crops and damaging a plastic tunnel used to grow crops in.

Cath Powell, of Park View, called the vandals “idiots” and urged them to apologise for their behaviour.

She added: “I’m very disappointed. It’s very annoying.

“The hard work in the last 18 months of the gardening club has been wrecked in a night. It is pathetic. It is a shame.

“It’s just a few idiots who spoil it for everyone else.

“We will find them on the CCTV. I would rather those responsible come down and apologise than get a criminal record, but if we have to go down that route we will.”

The incident took place between 8.15pm on July 16 and 7.30am on July 17.

PCSO Oli Boardman of Fylde police urged anyone with details to come forward.

He added: “I am appalled by this behaviour, this is a community garden project run entirely by volunteers and would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101.
