A drug addict who hid a sawn off shotgun and ammunition in his flat has been jailed for two and a half years.
Police officers searched Jamie Warren’s home on Westminster Road in Blackpool when they discovered the altered weapon in the cellar, wrapped in a bin liner. The gun’s butt end and ammo were in a small loft area in the kitchen.
They also found a small amount of cocaine, consistent with personal use.
He pleaded guilty to possessing an altered firearm and ammunition, both without a certificate, and possessing cocaine.
Preston Crown Court heard Warren, 25, began using cocaine on a social basis at weekends, but started to rely heavier on it after working long hours and travelling long distances to keep him awake.
He later lost his job, but not his drug addiction.
Mitigating, Julie Taylor said: “He built up a substantial debt. He spent some time hiding away from those he owed money to.
“He was found and threatened to look after the weapon. Rather than face the consequences of upsetting those he owed money to, he decided to look after it.
“He is extremely ashamed and full of remorse.”
Warren was told he would have to pay a £120 statutory surcharge.
