Firefighters in Blackpool went above and beyond the call when they were called to an unusual rescue in Blackpool.

Firefighters arrived to discover a seagull had been caught in netting on top of the building.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "A member of the public spotted the distressed bird from the street.

"We used a ladder to access the bird and freed it from the netting.

"It was quiet at first as it had been there a while, but it soon livened up.

"It had a good go at trying to peck us but it was just scared."

Firefighters report that the bird seemed happy enough to be freed and flew away without any apparent injury.
