A car and van were badly damaged in a crash in Blackpool.

Police and firefighters were called to the junction of Queen’s Promenade and Empress Drive, in North Shore, following the collision at around 12.40pm on Tuesday.

The southbound carriageway was closed while emergency services made the scene safe.

It is not clear if anyone was hurt.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We are called at around 12.40pm to reports of a two-vehicle collision near the Cliffs Hotel.

“The southbound carriageway was blocked.

“Both vehicles were due to be removed. There are no details of any injuries at this stage.”

Police said the van driver was a 21-year-old man. No details of the other driver were available.

Blackpool Transport, which had to divert its number one service because of the road block, has reported the road has now re-opened and its buses are running as normal.
