Couple's business dream comes true

Bekki Meyrick and Danny Robinson originally set up a small business together, using a storage unit and taking bookings via social media, but the idea proved so popular, the pair have had to expand and have now opened a shop.

Dream Events, based on Westmorland Avenue, Blackpool, offers items for hire for a whole host of special occasions and events – such as weddings, christenings, birthdays, engagement celebrations and corporate events.

Among the range of items people can book include horse and carriage candy cart, 4ft LED letters spelling LOVE, LED numbers, wishing wells, and postboxes.

Bekki, of Thornton, said: “We began in January, we originally had items in storage and all bookings were being taken via Facebook.

“It was immediately a success – with many bookings coming in for 2016 and 2017, much faster than anticipated.

“We attended wedding fairs to get our name out there, but still took most bookings via Facebook.

“As so many bookings were coming in, we decided to expand on the items we originally invested in to offer more to our customers.

“This continued until we realised we could no longer operate from a storage unit and decided to look for a shop.

“Luckily the shop next door to Danny’s other business became available, so we jumped at the chance to run this as Dream Events. It has two floors and plenty of space for the items.

“We now have many people arranging appointments and bookings and we are expanding even further to eventually become a one-stop shop for decoration hire.

“We originally set the business up together as a bit of a whirlwind, as we wanted to open up a business together – we both loved the idea of adding something extra special to a wedding or event.

“We work really well together and hope one day we will get to a point where we have a full team and Dream Events is used all across the North West.”

Bekki said the focus for the business was on the customer and making sure their event ran as smoothly as possible, while also being a day to remember – giving it the wow factor.

Danny, of Marton, also runs the tattoo parlour, Tattoo Lounge, next door to Dream Events.

Dream Events sets up the items for each event and picks them up afterwards.

Bekki added: “We understand that venues vary in size so we cater for very large set-ups and also intimate venues that still want that extra finishing touch.

“We cover Blackpool and surrounding areas and travel anywhere within the North West.

“People can visit the shop by appointment only.”
