FYLDE coast Paralympians were guests of honour at County Hall to see thousands of pounds donated to a scheme to inspire sporting stars of the future.

Myles Pearson, Shelly Woods, David Heaton and Justine Moore were invited to a reception to recognise their sporting achievements.

At the event, Coun Driver presented £15,000 from the County Council to the Lancashire Rising Star Fund, which provides financial support for young sportsmen and women in Lancashire, to help them excel in their chosen sport.

County Coun John Shedwick, chairman of the county council, said: “We’re very proud of each and every one of the athletes and wanted to publicly thank them. They’re all brilliant role models, a true inspiration to our young people and indeed to us all.

“We also wanted to support the next generation of sports stars in Lancashire. For this reason, we’re giving £15,000 to the Lancashire Rising Star Fund. Who knows, this might help towards a future Olympic or Paralympic medal winner.”
