A SCANNER is helping to keep stray dogs off the streets of Fleetwood.
The town council purchased the device and donated the micro-chip scanner to the neighbourhood policing team after a number of complaints were received about dogs fighting.
Sgt Dan Whitaker, Fleetwood neighbourhood police team, added: “I would like to thank Fleetwood Town Council for loaning us this equipment.
“By identifying a dog and its owner early on, it can bring a much speedier conclusion to the incident thus freeing up that officer to attend other matters.”
PCSO Linda Stackhouse has delivered two previous free dog chipping days supported by the Dogs Trust and the town council in order to encourage owners to take responsibility of their pets.
She said: “It is great for us to have use of this scanner as it will assist us in identifying dogs and return them to their rightful owners.
“Every care should always be taken to prevent your dog becoming free on the streets, but occasionally they manage to escape.”
