A delighted couple are celebrating after scooping £1,500 to pay their energy bills this winter.

Lynda Bond said the cash – won thanks to The Gazette’s Bill Buster competition – would make a massive difference to her and husband John’s life.

Mrs Bond said: “John’s got cancer and feels the cold, so the heating is on nearly 24 hours a day and the bills mount up.

“Winning is brilliant for us because it means I don’t have to worry about putting the heating on. I was dreading this winter thinking about how the price of gas has gone up. This is brilliant because we will just put the heating on and John will be warm and comfortable.

“It’s a big weight off my mind because I was always thinking how much is the next bill going to be. I’m thrilled to bits.”

It was only the second time the lucky 66-year-old, from Briarwood Drive, in Bispham, has entered a Gazette competition – but it is also the second time she has won cash towards her energy bills.

Back in 2002 Mrs Bond scooped £2,000 from a British Gas competition.

And she said: “I only enter the easy competitions – the ones I don’t have to think about!

“When I saw this competition I thought I would have a go because I didn’t have to think, and I couldn’t believe it when I got the phone call to say I had won.

“In 2002 British Gas had a competition running and I won that, so when I found out I had won this competition I couldn’t believe it.”

And the couple’s family and friends can’t believe their luck either.

Mrs Bond added: “I think the general term they’ve used is ‘you jammy devil!’

“They’ve all said brilliant, you deserve it and it will keep you warm. It will definitely make a difference.”
