THE Fylde coast’s private hospital has opened a third operating theatre.

And the £1.3m facility at the Spire Fylde Coast Hospital, on St Walburga’s Road, Blackpool, was officially opened by ex-England rugby union caption Bill Beaumont.

The new theatre will allow the hospital to treat an increasing number of patients, along with creating some new jobs.

Paula Bryant, theatre manager, said: “The new facilities come complete with anaesthetic and recovery suites and will be a welcome addition to the hospital for both patients and consultants alike.”

Situated at the rear of the hospital site, the theatre will be used for cosmetic procedures and eye surgery, among other procedures.

Mr Beaumont, long-standing supporter of the hospital, said: “It is very refreshing to see companies expanding in these times, I myself have been a patient in the hospital and have always been looked after extremely well.

“I can only thank the hospital for giving me the privilege of opening the new theatre.”

Liz Cousins, hospital director, added: “It was an absolute pleasure to have Bill Beaumont, as well as the Mayor of Blackpool, Sylvia Taylor and Mayoress Julia Massey at the ceremony. The addition of the theatre is a huge step forward for the hospital and we are looking forward to caring for many more patients.”
