Les Palmer decided it was time the walls needed cheering up a bit at the health centre where he volunteers.

So the 82-year-old (pictured wearing the hat) contacted The Gazette and arranged for a pile of photographs from years gone by to be delivered.

He had them framed and has now opened what he’s dubbed The Gazette Gallery at the Spiral Health centre in Bispham, a rehabilitation centre for patients who have been in hospital.

“I’ve put the pictures up on the walls and a lot of the patients have told me how much they like them,” said Mr Palmer. “It is nice to have a bit of the resort’s history represented and it also cheers people up to be able to look at something.”

Tracey Bush, managing director at Spiral, said: “Les is a volunteer with us and came up with the idea of getting some pictures framed, which we thought was great.

“He has made it happens and it is lovely for the patients to have something to look at and to talk about.”
