A PCSO has been praised for his hard work after he said farewell to his patch.
PCSO Dennis Nelson spent almost seven years working on the town centre’s Talbot ward – but this week he is starting a new beat after moving to Morecambe to be closer to his family.
The popular PCSO has today been praised by the residents he helped in Talbot ward, and said he was sad to be saying goodbye to the resort.
He said: “My time on Talbot ward has been brilliant, it’s been absolutely outstanding. My previous employment was with the RAF for 22 years, and then I joined up as a PCSO and I’ve never looked back.
“Everyone I’ve come across in the community in Talbot ward, not just the public but the council and the fire service, have been fantastic and made my life easier in dealing with certain issues.
“There’s so much I’ve done that I’m proud of, we’ve built up the PACT meeting from having around 15 people to coming to 40, and we’ve built up a really strong neighbourhood watch as well.
“If I had my time again I would do exactly the same and come to Blackpool.”
PCSO Nelson was also integral in helping the ward secure a new noticeboard, which is due to be erected soon on Whitegate Drive, and a speed indicator device, which will be used to target speeding motorists in the area.
Eddie Fewings, the chairman of Belle Vue Neighbourhood Watch, said: “Dennis worked hard, in our area, to help the public report crime and have confidence that something positive was being done.
“We have lost that asset. Dennis works with integrity, wisdom and understands how the knowledge of basic policing can be used effectively to unite the public against community problems he is paid to tackle. He led by doing the job he loves properly.”
