REGULATORS have warned a Blackpool nursing home for failing to protect the residents in its care.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) issued a formal warning to Ribble Valley Care Ltd which owns the Abbeydale Nursing Home on New South Promenade,
It follows a visit by inspectors to the home on August 24 this year.
Among the concerns raised was the “potential use of unsafe or inappropriate restraint” of residents, according to a report by the CQC.
But the company says all the issues have been addressed and the home, which caters for dementia patients, is having a £120,000 upgrade.
The inspection also found the home, which caters for up to 24 residents, was failing to meet national standards relating to care and welfare, and the safeguarding of residents.
The issues around restraint were in relation to concerns staff had not had adequate training to deal safely with situations where residents needed to be physically controlled.
Malcolm Bower-Brown, deputy director of CQC in the North, said: “This warning sends a clear and public message that Ribble Valley Care Limited need to address these issues as a matter of urgency or face serious consequences.
“We will return to Abbeydale Nursing Home in the near future and if we find the provider is not making the required progress we won’t hesitate to use our legal powers to ensure residents are receiving the service they are entitled to expect.”
Simon Crowther, managing director of Ribble Valley Care, said all the issues had now been resolved.
Concerns regarding restraining people had been addressed through training.
He said; “Every single issue they raised, we were already aware of and were already addressing. The training required has now been completed and we have recently recruited a very experienced new manager. We are also in the process of carrying out a large-scale renovation of the home and investing around £120,000.”
The Abbeydale has been given until October 24 to carry out the improvements ordered by the CQC.
