Blackpool soldier Jason Jagger has done his home town proud after he guarded the Queen’s carriage during Saturday’s Trooping the Colour ceremony to mark the Queen’s official birthday.

But no-one is more proud than his mum, Laura Jagger, of North Shore.

“We weren’t able to get down to London, which was disappointing, but we saw more of him on the television than we would have if we were there,” she said.

“We are all so proud of were he’s got to so quickly in his career.”

Jason, who turns 20 today, joined the Army at 17, and decided he wanted to be a member of the Queen’s guard. Usually, he is posted on horseback outside Buckingham Palace and on Saturday he was selected to form part of the guard around the carriage.

Lara, 37, added: “Jason was worried about how the horse was going to behave during the ceremony, but he was really good.”
