It was a very happy Christmas for little Maysie Alice Eastwood, who drew on all her skills to bag herself and her family a special festive prize.

The six-year-old, from South Shore, impressed Gazette readers with her design in our Decorate a Christmas Tree competition, run in conjunction with The Garden Place of Blackpool.

Youngsters across Blackpool and the Fylde coast were asked to draw or paint a Christmas tree and we received hundreds and hundreds of entries.

The best ones were featured in a bumper supplement in The Gazette and we asked readers to vote for their favourite.

Maysie received the most votes for her artistic efforts and picked up a Christmas tree, with £100 of decorations, plus a ticket to Santa’s Grotto.

A spokesman for The Garden Centre said: “We’re very proud to have sponsored The Gazette Decorate a Christmas Tree competition.

“We would like to pass on our congratulations to the winner, Maysie, and all the runners-up – some of whom had chance to meet Father Christmas.

“We would also like to thank everyone who entered, as the standard of entries was very high and they should all be very proud.”
