Rude remarks on Facebook about a rival hairdresser led a man into trouble with the law.

Jon White smashed the windscreen of a salon owner’s car, after insulting messages were put on the social media site about his girlfriend’s salon.

White, 26, of Newbury Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to causing damage. He was fined £225 with £50 costs and ordered to pay £100 compensation plus £26 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Alison Quanbrough, prosecuting, said negative messages about White’s girlfriend’s salon were made on Facebook.

White went to the rival hairdresser’s, on Lytham Road, and smashed the windscreen of the owner’s car by punching it twice.

Hugh Pond, defending, said White’s girlfriend had been very upset when the insulting messages appeared on Facebook.

White had been offered a conditional caution by the police as long as he paid for the damage, but no money changed hands.
