A man used a hammer to smash a jewellers window and grab goods worth £5,500.

Damien Hough, 24, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burgling the Goldmine Jewellery shop. He also admitted going equipped with a hammer to steal. He was committed in custody to Preston Crown Court for sentence on July 30.

Chrissie Hunt, prosecuting, said a cleaner was working at Goldmine Jewellery, Waterloo Road, when a hammer smashed the shop’s front window on June 24 at 9.30am.

Jewellery valued at £5,500 was snatched.

Hough was identified from CCTV footage.

Co-accused, Mark Turner, 28, of no fixed address, who is also charged with burgling Goldmine Jewellery and going equipped to steal with a hammer, did not indicate pleas to the offences and was committed in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on July 23 by Blackpool magistrates.
