A YOUNG entrepreneur has been cashing in on his gardening skills for the benefit of his school.
Greg Anderton, 17, is making his studies pay off, having launched an in-house gardening brochure, Leafy Lytham Nurseries, at his school, Lytham St Annes (LSA) High School.
Using his interests in horticulture and business Greg created the brochure for teachers to allow them to choose bulbs to be planted in the school’s gardens.
These are the same gardens Greg spent years tending to, creating a small memorial to former students who died while still at LSA.
The Head Boy said: “In order to get hands on experience of business studies I thought I’d set up a small enterprise.
“It allows me to give something back to the school.”
The budding gardener grows plants and flowers in a greenhouse at home, off Mythop Road, Lytham, then puts together arrangements to either be sold or planted in the school grounds.
And demand has been high for Leafy Lytham Nurseries’ hanging baskets, decorative plants and bedding plants.
From summer and winter editions of the brochure Greg has raised around £200 to spend on doing up the school’s grounds, off Worsley Road, Ansdell.
In June last year a memorial garden was opened by the school entrance to commemorate LSA pupils who lost their lives while still students. Greg is now saving to create other attractive areas in the school gardens. Headteacher Philip Wood said: “He’s a fantastic young man. Greg is a credit to the school and his parents.”
Greg is now working towards his A Levels and hoping to go on to study Business Management at Edge Hill University.
