Organisations from across Fylde have come together to make the borough a friendlier place for people with dementia.

The first steps towards forming a Dementia Alliance were taken when Fylde Council invited organisations including banks, the NHS, trading standards, traders and Blackpool Transport to the Town hall for a special meeting.

Coun Cheryl Little, a trained ‘dementia volunteer’ and Fylde Council cabinet member said: “People with dementia can act out of character – one instance, a resident was repeatedly withdrawing money from the bank on the same day.

“Situations like this can be distressing. The next step is that all the delegates to the meeting will go back to their organisations and develop awareness among their staff. Another meeting will then be held to take the strategy further towards making a dementia-friendly Fylde.”
