It’s been a difficult week for the Nolans, as they prepared to mark the anniversary of Bernie’s death who died a year ago yesterday.

The nation mourned the loss of the singing star last year after died from cancer on July 4. Wellwishers, including many of the famous people whose lives had been touched by Bernie over the years, descended on Blackpool for her funeral at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre.

And one year on, the loss is as big to the family as it was when Bernie died, aged just 52.

Linda Nolan said: “We can’t believe it’s been a year, but the day itself was hard.

“It’s not like celebrating her birthday or anything like that; it’s remembering the terrible time we had last year.”

Linda said the family was being supported by friends who had been sending messages of love and thoughts throughout the day.

“I think people will be remembering Bernie in their own way, but it’s different for us because she was our sister and we think of her every day,” Linda added.

She said the build-up to yesterday had been hard as the family knew the anniversary of Bernie’s death was coming up.

She added: “Of course, the day afterwards would be like any other, and the start of another year without Bernie.

“We are always going to have this big void in our lives, but all we can do is be there for each other. I know from experience that losing someone you love so much gets easier to live with, but you never get over it.”

Linda said the family appreciated everyone’s kind thoughts and memories.
