Comic superfans are to turn part of their home into a sci-fi shrine after scooping £1,000 in a competition.
When Diane Goulding bought a crate of Magners cider for her son’s 19th birthday party, little did she know it would signal the start of journey which will end in a dedicated room being built for her extraordinary collection.
The 44-year-old and her partner, Roger McCormick, 39, boast a huge collection of Judge Dredd comics - 18 boxes to be precise - one of the futuristic law enforcer’s helmets, and a wealth of light sabres and Stormtrooper outfits from Star Wars.
Miss Goulding, a mum-of-one, from St John’s Avenue, Thornton, said: “We are really into sci-fi and Judge Dredd comics, and have a helmet and axe.
“We have a sword from (TV show) Heroes but it’s all packed into boxes because we have no where to store it.
“My brother-in-law makes replica Stormtrooper costumes so we have quite a lot of Star Wars stuff like light sabres.
“My other half doesn’t like throwing things away so he started collecting comics.”
Miss Goulding bought the cider from the Co-Op in Thornton, text a unique code to a dedicated number, and was later told she had won the cash prize.
She added: “I couldn’t believe my luck.
“I even received the money the next day so it’s all been a bit of a whirlwind.
“We moved here last September and the house is still a mess, so this means we can move on with what we want to do.
“My son loves all the stuff we have and when he was younger he had a lot of memorabilia.”
Ed Shoebridge, head of Customer Marketing at Magners, said: “I’d like to congratulate Diane on behalf of everyone at Magners.
“The promotion provides and instant opportunity to win big, it’s easy to enter and it’s still open for another 30 days so there’s plenty more opportunities to win!”
