Friends and family of Chay Lancaster are being urged to wear bright colours when they bid him a final farewell next week.

The care worker’s body was found by climbers in the Lake District on July 28 after he had been missing for almost four years.

As reported in yesterday’s Gazette, Mr Lancaster’s body was discovered at the base of Blake Rigg, Little Langdale.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10.30am at Carleton Crematorium, and his family have asked for it to be a ‘celebration of his life.’

His daughter Anna said; “His favourite colour was purple and he loved quirky clothes.

“He was always smartly dressed and always wore paisley so we have said we want the dress code for his funeral service to be bright colours to reflect that.”

Mourners are also being asked to make donations to the Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team in his memory.

Lisa Hughes, who was among a group of Chay’s friends who made regular trips to the Lake District handing out posters in the hope of finding him, said he would always be missed.

She said: “It’s devastating news about Chay.

“The time that has passed since he went missing has still not prepared us for this shocking and saddening news.

“Chay was a very intelligent man with a lovely empathetic nature.

“He loved to read, especially Russian novelists and about Anthropology, and had hundreds of books.

“He loved music and art too and was a great dancer to boot.

“My dancing partner’s gone and I’ll forever miss him.”

Mr Lancaster, 41, had been a keen musician performing in several bands including The Lyric Suite and The Fragments.

In later years he performed as a part of a duo with his lifelong friend Simon Green at folk nights.

The father-of-four went missing while walking alone in the Lake District in September 2010. Despite extensive searches by the Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team and by family and friends no trace was found of him until tragically his body was discovered last month.

Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
