Motorists are being urged to ensure their cars are locked and their valuables are out of sight after 18 vehicles were broken into during the same week last year.

Officers in Blackpool South are launching an awareness campaign during half term, when visitors to the town increase over the holiday period.

Officers will be carrying out increased patrols in hotspot areas and leaflets featuring the strapline ‘Five seconds is all it takes to steal your valuables from an unlocked car’, will be handed out .

Sgt David Oldfield, Blackpool South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I would urge the public to help us help them by taking preventative measures to stop themselves becoming victims of car thefts.”
