A nurse was over the limit after drinking a couple of alcoholic “hot toddies” to help alleviate her cold symptoms.

Lisa Crolla said to an officer who arrested her: “I’m not a criminal. Please don’t do this, I have not killed anyone.”

Crolla, 43, of Elm Avenue, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

She was banned from the road for 18 months and fined £200 with £85 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Roger Lowe sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Claire Harris, prosecuting, said police were dealing with an incident in the resort’s Meadway when Crolla drew up in a Mazda MX5 on January 17 at 1am.

An officer who went over to speak to her smelt alcohol on her breath. A urine test showed she was almost twice over the limit with 212 micrograms of alcohol in her body - 107 is the limit.

Allan Cobain, defending, said Crolla was ashamed of what had she had done. Her boyfriend encouraged her to have a couple of hot toddies to combat her symptoms.
