A disabled man was caught driving on a motorway while twice over the alcohol limit.

John Seal was in a Motability Car on his way home after hearing his wife had to go to hospital for an appointment.

Seal, 64, of Blake Gardens, Bolton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was banned from the road for 18 months and fined £150 with £85 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Huw Edwards sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Claire Harris, prosecuting, said police received a report the driver of a Ford Fiesta on the M55 had been drinking on June 26 at 9.30pm. Officers stopped Seal on the motorway near Kirkham. A breath test showed 71 micrograms of alcohol in his body - 35 is the limit.
