A resort attraction has been granted approval for changes which it hopes will boost visitor numbers.
Town hall chiefs have approved an application for listed building consent to enable alterations to be made to the Merrie England Bar on North Pier.
Sue Sedgwick, who lodged the application with the council, said the aim was to create a traditional-style English pub facing on to Talbot Square, with a function room behind.
A design brief accompanying the submission says: “This development will allow us to trade economically for 11 months of the year, creating jobs and an improved facility for the town.”
It is proposed to refurbish the bar and restore the original features.
Council planners approved the application using their delegated powers after there were no objections to the scheme from heritage chiefs.
