Actor Ciaran Hay in rehearsal for a scene from the Anonymous Players' production of The Accrington Pals

An appeal has gone out for help after a prop for a
forthcoming amateur
production at Lytham proved a tight squeeze.

The Anonymous Players are presenting The Accrington Pals, by Peter Whelan, at Lowther Pavilion this
summer to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Rehearsals have been
under way for weeks and going well but a stumbling block has been just how difficult actor Ciaran Hay finds it to fit into the only tin bath available for an important scene which sees him take a wash on stage.

Ciaran, 18, is 6ft 5in tall and the tiny bath is a real squeeze – so director Di Prutton wants to hear from anyone who can help with the loan of one of a more fitting size.

“Such baths were a feature of every home a century ago when the play is set but the only one we have been able to source so far is rather uncomfortable for Ciaran,” said Di.

“If anyone has one in their shed, garage or attic and is willing to lend it to us, we would be delighted to hear from them.”

Ciaran, who lives in Lytham, plays a raw young
soldier called Ralph in the play, which will runs from August 6 to 9 at Lowther and Di added: “It’s a moving play which shows the courage of the men and boys who went off to war so ill-prepared for what they would find and the women left behind.”

Other cast members will include Ian Edmundson, Chris and Ann Slack, Liz Antcliffe, Bee Scully, Gill Gregson, Chris Ackersley, Tom Wheeldon and Holly Sagar, while the production, set in Accrington in the early years of the war, will feature live music by Blackpool Brass, who will
entertain the audience
before the play, as well as
taking on the role of the town band.

Ticket details are available from the Lowther box office on (01253) 794221.

Anyone who can help with the supply of a bath which will fit Ciaran should call 07714 255333 or e-mail Anonsec@aol.com.
