A man was left with stab wounds following a suspected assault in Blackpool that left two people in need of hospital treatment.

Two people were arrested and taken to Royal Preston Hospital following a disturbance on South Park Drive, Stanley Park on Saturday.

The pair, a man and a woman, were last night due to be released from hospital for questioning at Blackpool police station.

It is understood the man was treated for a stab wound while the woman had injuries to her head following the incident, which took place at around 6pm.

There was a heavy police presence in the street following the alleged assault, with four police cars, a rapid response van and two ambulances spotted on the scene.

One neighbour reported seeing crime scene investigators at the house, which was being watched by officers and had police tape covering a rear garage, afterwards.

Others reported seeing a man and a woman being taken into ambulances following the incident.

A police spokesman last night told The Gazette: “Both parties were arrested and both went over to hospital for treatment.

“The female received head injures and the male received a stab wound.

“They are imminently on their way back to the policestation.”

He described the injuries sustained by the man and woman as “serious but not life threatening”.

Speaking shortly after incident on Saturday, Det Insp Mike Charlton, force incident manager for Blackpool police, said: “An incident took place just after 6pm this evening, believed to be an assault.

“Two persons have been arrested in connection with that assault.”
