The Love Lowther fund-raising campaign is set for another major boost after a forthcoming concert by Collabro sold out.

The performance by the popular boy band on Sunday, February 21, is expected to generate some £8,000, with proceeds going directly to the fund-raising campaign to restore and refurbish Lytham’s theatre and community venue.

Just months after being set up, the campaign has raised more than £250,000 towards the first phase of the £5.25m project and Lowther general manager Roger McCann said: “We’re delighted that Collabro chose to perform at Lowther and donate the proceeds to our campaign. The fact that the show is a complete sell out is fantastic.”

Work on the first phase, which will include a new-look reception area, with a glass atrium including a Wall of Fame etched with supporters’ names, is set to start in June and Lytham-based architects Creative Spark have been appointed as principal designers.

A number of local businesses, individuals and community groups, including Whelans Fish Restaurant, Clifton Park Hotel, Whittles Accountants, Exquisite Shoes, Clifton Arms Hotel, AKS, Fylde Coast Players, St Annes Operatic Society and an anonymous benefactor who donated £100,000 have contributed to the fund and Roger added: “Love Lowther is an ambitious project and one that we can only hope to achieve with the full support of the community.

“The fundraising is ongoing and further information is available at www.lovelowther.co.uk or from the theatre.”

Later the same week, on Thursday, February 25, the Blackpool Variety branch of Equity, the actors’ trade union, is presenting a Variety Extravaganza, also to boost the appeal.

The show will be headlined by comedian Johnnie Casson and feature a full programme including vocalists Carolynn May, Ken Morrell and Mike Sears, magician Brian Sefton, the Suzanne Roberts Dancers and compere Des Day. Tickets details from the Lowther box office on (01253) 794221.
