A MAJOR search and rescue operation was launched after two men were reported missing from Blackpool beach.
But the drama turned out to be a false alarm.
Coastguards from Lytham and three lifeboat teams scoured the coast last night after a teenager found clothes on the sands opposite the Manchester Pub in South Shore.
But despite a thorough search nothing was found.
Liverpool Coastguard watch manager Paul Parkes said “This was a false alarm raised with good intent and not what we would call a hoax.”
Police were called to the incident which happened 8.20pm and 9.20pm.
A spokesman said: “The lad who reported it had put two and two together. He had seen people going in the water or messing about.”
