Girl Guides have been rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty to help their local community and help
others.

Members of 3rd Norbreck Guides took part in a clean-up to improve the Bispham area and also raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The event, in Moor Park, was organised by Katrina Parker, 11, and Courtney Thompson, 12, as part of their Baden Powell Award – and the girls combined fund-raising with cleaning up the community.

They contacted the charity themselves, informed all the other Guides of the event, chose a theme and sourced the materials they would need.

They and the other girls did a sponsored walk through Moor Park, picking up litter along the way.

Courtney said: “Our aim was to make the park tidier and raise money at the same time and I think it went very well, because we achieved both of those things.

“It didn’t seem like there was much litter at first, but we managed to fill two black bin bags once we started looking.”

Other members of the group have organised a host of events throughout the year – including international nights, obstacle courses and trips to go ice skating.
