A BLACKPOOL charity is urging people to make donations during opening hours after some bags of donated items were stolen from outside their premises.

The items were taken during the weekend after being left on the doorstep of Homeless Action on Cookson Street, which raises money for the Ashley Foundation for homeless people.

Karen Winkley, community development officer at the Ashley Foundation, said: “Clearly there has been an issue lately in Blackpool with a spate of donated goods being stolen from outside various charity shops.

“We know very well at the Ashley Foundation how people are finding life tough but we rely on the donation of good quality items for sale at the Homeless Action Shop on Cookson Street to support the vital work of the foundation.

“We would respectfully ask that people continue donating during shop opening hours of 10am until 4pm, Monday to Saturday, but for larger items of furniture or in the case of substantial donations we can arrange to collect them.”
