A MUM whose daughter was at the centre of an abduction case has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

A massive police investigation was launched after allegations were made a man had tried to snatch Janine Wiles’ two-year-old daughter.

Police were called to the family’s home on Erdington Road after it was reported a man with a knife had tried to snatch the tot from the back yard of the property around 6.30pm on June 30.

It was alleged a man had scaled a 6ft wall and grabbed the toddler, who was playing with her four-year-old brother and seven-year-old friend.

Reports of the case left the local community shocked.

Officers flooded the area and warnings were issued to parents to be extra vigilant.

Two men were arrested and quizzed over the allegations before detectives announced they had called the investigation off.

Wiles, 24, who also goes by the name of Janine Gibson, was later arrested on suspicion of wasting police time and has now been charged.

A police spokesman said: “Janine Wiles, of Kent Road, Blackpool, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

“The charge relates to an allegation of attempted abduction of her two-year-old daughter.”

Wiles has been bailed to appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court on September 30.
