A fitness instructor has rowed the equivalent of the English Channel and back to raise money for a hospital charity.

Anthony Stayte, duty manager at Fitness at Blackpool FC, spent five-and-a-half hours rowing a total of 64,000m on a rowing machine which he brought to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

The stunt was held to raise money for Blue Skies Hospitals Fund’s Heart Of Gold Charitable Fund, which supports the Lancashire Cardiac Centre based at the Blackpool hospital.

Anthony, 24, said: “I am doing this for Heart Of Gold because my mum, Karen, had a heart attack four years ago. She came here, but it was obviously quite a worrying moment in my life, and I just want to do all I can to support the people who cared for her.

“It’s been a challenge, and it was harder than I thought, but I’m really proud of myself for doing it.”

Anthony is still collecting sponsorship, but he hopes to have raised more than £500 for the charity’s fund.
