Wildlife will benefit from a £75,000 funding boost to save Lancashire’s largest raised bog.
The SITA Trust – which supports community improvement projects – has donated the cash to The Lancashire Wildlife Trust, to carry out significant work at Winmarleigh Moss, to stop it drying out.
The moss, in Wyre, is home to a range of rare and unusual plants and animals, including large heath butterfly and the brown hare.
Dr Chris Miller (pictured), mossland project manager for the Wildlife Trust, said: “It is really fantastic we have this funding to carry out these improvements. Not only will this help save the rare mossland habitat, it will also help safeguard thousands of tonnes of carbon stored in the peaty soil.”
