Cars set to light up resort festival

BLACKPOOL was already revving up for a bumper Lights season.

Now it will play host to the first illuminated parade of cars in the UK.

The Art Car parade, on October 21, will see up to 20 vehicles form an illuminated motorcade along the Promenade.

It is set to be the highlight of this year's Festival of Light – part of Blackpool's Illuminations.

Three vehicles – including a flame-throwing Green Goddess and an illuminated metallic fish on a Nissan Micra – are being built especially for the event.

Samara Stott, creative manager for the Festival of Light and Blackpool Illuminations, said: "The creation of an illuminated parade as part of the festival has been an idea we had hoped to develop previously.

"This will be a great opportunity to see the Illuminations on the move with a convoy of unusual and colourful vehicles. We want members of the public to get involved and create illuminated art cars of their own."
