A MAN has appeared in court accused of starting a fire at a Fylde coast caravan park.

Firefighters were called to Cala Gran in Fleetwood in the early hours of Friday.

One of the static caravans on the Fleetwood Road site was well alight.

Residents in neighbouring vehicles were woken up and evacuated as fire crews tackled the flames.

A woman was originally reported to be inside the caravan, but firefighters could not locate her at the scene.

An investigation was launched by both Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Fleetwood Police.

Keith Ashley, 54, from Earby Grove, Manchester, was charged with arson, recklessly endangering life.

Ashley appeared before Blackpool Magistrates Court where he was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on June 2.
