A CAR ended up on its roof in what has been described as a “high speed incident” on the Promenade.
The upturned Mini came to a standstill outside the Metropole hotel at around 2.30am on Friday.
Its driver had fled the scene.
Blackpool Council was forced to close the road from the time of the crash until around 6.40am while a diesel spillage from the vehicle was cleared.
A Blackpool Council spokesman said: “There was a high speed incident at the junction of Queen Street and Promenade, as a result of which we had to close off a section of the road.
“When we got there, there was no-one inside the vehicle.”
A police spokeswoman said the driver was believed to have ran off through the market.
Fire crews from Forest Gate attended the scene and used hose reels to clear the fuel from the road.
Anyone who may know the identity of the driver is asked to contact police on 101.
