CAMPAIGNERS are hoping they’ve done enough to save a historic pub from demolition.
A four-week public consultation period into the future of the Victoria Hotel, on Church Road, St Annes, which developer McCarthy & Stone want to demolish to make way for retirement flats, has now finished.
Campaigners have submitted hundreds of objections on a petition to Fylde Council, whose development control committee will ultimately decide the application.
Edward Duralski, who’s leading the campaign, said: “It makes no sense to demolish a much-loved and well recognised landmark building that dates back over 100 years and is one of the few remaining buildings from the early St Annes.”
A spokesman for the developers said: “Members of the McCarthy & Stone project team are hoping to meet with the planning officer in the coming weeks to talk through the proposal.”
No date has been set for the development control committee meeting.
