An Army cadet from Blackpool has been rewarded for exceptional service.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth, held his reserve forces and cadets annual awards presentation at the headquarters of Lancashire Army Cadet Force, at Fulwood Barracks.

Major Roger Longden, 51, from Blackpool, was awarded The Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for exceptional service – one of only five such awards for the entire county.

Major Longden, who works as a pensions administrator, commands Wingate Company of Lancashire Army Cadet Force with headquarters at Sir Matthew Fell House TA Centre, on Parkinson Way, Blackpool.

Col Mark Underhill, chief executive of the North West Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, said: “Major Longden is an outstanding leader and an extremely valued member of Lancashire Army Cadet Force.

“He has brought an unrivalled level of professionalism to the role. He is also the County’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards Scheme officer and has increased the number of cadets.”
