Lifeboat crews were kept busy in the early hours of Sunday when two people threatened to harm themselves by entering the sea.

Blackpool RNLI and Lytham Coastguard were called to search the coast next to North Pier at 1.45am when they recived a call claiming a man was in the water.

However, when they arrived at the scene, they found it to be a false alarm and the crew was stood down.

On their way back to their Promenade Station, at 3am, Lytham Coastguard reported seeing a woman running into the water opposite the Metropole Hotel.

The lifeboat raced back to the scene, but the woman had already been led to safety by the coastguard and handed over to police.
