Busy night for emergency services

IT was a busy night for the resort’s emergency services last night, as rescuers were called to three separate incidents in just two hours.

At just after 1.10am the police and coastguard were called to a man in a confused state who had got lost on the beach.

The 21-year-old man was eventually located near to South Pier and taken to safety.

At 2.20am firefighters were called to a wheelie bin which had been deliberately set on fire next to Natwest Bank on Whitegate Drive.

The blaze caused damage to the outside of the bank and smashed windows.

And just 20 minutes later they were called to deal with a chip pan fire at a flat on Cocker Street.

Nobody was injured as a result but the kitchen received considerable smoke damage.
