An Italian restaurant has received an award for its cooking using wood-fired ovens.

Italio, on Highfield Road, Blackpool, only opened last October but it has been given the first ever Woody award.

The Woody was awarded by Logs Direct, which supplies wood and charcoal. Italio uses a wood-fired Valoriani clay oven.

It is operated by Tommaso Seneroso – a pizzaiolo with 12 years’ experience under his pizza paddle – and was the choice of owner, Nino Provenzano.

Nino wanted to produce the same ambience, aromas and tastes he enjoyed during his childhood in Sicily by fitting a wood-fired oven.
