Whisky deal in time for Royal Lytham tournament

VISITORS to the 2012 Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes can be forgiven for partaking in a wee dram.

For whisky giant Glenmorangie has signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with Royal and Ancient (R&A), the organisers of the competition.

The Open is golf’s most famous tournament, watched on television by an estimated 458 million households in 196 territories worldwide.

And more than 200,000 are expected to enjoy the drama of The Open in person this year. Royal Lytham and St Annes will be hosting the event from July 15 to 22.

Glenmorangie managing director Paul Skipworth said: “Glenmorangie is proud to become a part of this amazing Championship, which will see our whisky showcased to as many as 200,000 visitors at each Open”

R&A chief executive Peter Dawson added: “We are thrilled to welcome Glenmorangie as the Official Whisky of The Open Championship.

“Glenmorangie is an iconic Scottish brand which like golf is enjoyed the world over.”
