Two postal sorting offices could be replaced by a new Fylde coast hub, the Royal Mail has announced.

Royal Mail says no jobs will be lost as a result of the merger proposal, and is set to submit a planning application to Blackpool Council in the near future.

Should it be given the green light, Blackpool’s Abingdon Street and Poulton’s Cocker Street offices would close in summer 2015.

Adrian Fielding, Royal Mail’s delivery director for the North West, said: “We have been searching for a more suitable site for our Blackpool delivery office for some time, as the current site is no longer fit for purpose, being an old fashioned multi-floor site.

“This is not really compatible with the modern delivery world and the vast amount of parcels we now need to deliver.”

“Our service to customers will continue to be a top priority during any move, if it gets the go-ahead.

“Customers can be reassured that we will do all we can to minimise disruption and ensure we maintain the high level of service that they expect and deserve from Royal Mail.”
