THE owners of a new bike shop in Poulton have launched their business on three fronts to ensure its success.

Husband and wife team Heather and Graham McMurray from Thornton have opened Wyre Cycles after spotting a gap in the market.

And they have simultaneously launched a website and tied up a deal with the YMCA to work in partnership and offer the organisation’s members a discount at the business.

The business, based in Breck Mews, Breck Road. is a one-stop cycling shop for everything from unicycles and children’s bikes through to adult bikes, equipment and repairs.

Heather said: “This is our first business. We’re both into sports and love cycling and there was nowhere around here to get repairs done.

“We saw a gap in the marketplace and we’ve gone for it.

“It’s been going well thanks to word-of-mouth so far and we’re working with the YMCA by offering members a discount – it gives them something else to offer their members.

“We sell everything from unicycles onwards – and we offer a bespoke service. If it’s not in the shop we’ll try and get it in for you through our vast number of suppliers.

“We also sell spinning gear – that’s a big thing at the moment.”

The shop’s website has been designed to give the business a national face with the ability to deliver goods across the UK.

Coun Barry Birch, portfolio holder for the economy at Wyre Council, said he welcomed all new business start-ups, especially in difficult economic times.

He added: “It’s good news and good to see people realising the potential of Poulton.

“We welcome any new business to the area which will add to the diversity of the offer in the marketplace and this seems to fill a niche.”
