You might normally associate fish and chips and a stick of rock as the perfect culinary accompaniment to a day up Blackpool Tower.
But a new cafe which has opened its doors in the world famous attraction is putting paid to that, and offering visitors a baked pastry and freshly brewed coffee as they tour the landmark.
The Blackpool Tower Coffee Company has opened up on level five, overlooking the Comedy Carpet and offering stunning views out over the Irish Sea and the resort’s North and Central Piers.
With the faint sound of the organ drifting through from the nearby Ballroom and a sturdy pane of glass protecting visitors from the elements often battering the Fylde coast it offers a place to enjoy a morning coffee or afternoon tea – or more likely for people to steel themselves before travelling the 380ft up the Tower.
South Shore resident Mark Yates took members of his family, visiting from America, to the cafe.
Mr Yates, the owner of Brook’s Collectables, Waterloo Road, said: “We brought some relatives to see The Tower and as a local shop owner it’s good to be able to tell people just how good the attractions are.
“On our way to go up The Tower we decided to have a ‘cup of courage’ in the cafe and enjoy the brilliant view.”
Kate Shane, general manager of The Blackpool Tower, said: “This new café and bar is another fantastic offering to the five amazing attractions we already have.”
The cafe is open daily from 10am selling hot drinks, sandwiches and fresh pastries.
