INVESTMENT in its staff has lead a St Annes company to be named one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For.
Beaverbrooks, which has its head office on Park Road, was named the 22nd best company in the country after employees responded to 70 questions about their working environment.
The family-owned firm has 808 employees at its 66 sites across the country, and has spent £470,000 alone in the past year on training for its staff.
The Top 100 report states: “In a culture of openness and honesty, colleagues are encouraged to give each other feedback on matters relevant to their professional life, including behaviour and performance.
“As a result, they believe the firm is run on strong values, giving it a top 10 positive score of 85 per cent, and feel that profit isn’t the only concern driving the business – 71 per cent, a score bettered by just 10 other companies.
Phil Jepson, HR manager at the jewellers, said: “It’s about people having the knowledge that they’re working for a company that is going to look after them.
“It helps with recruitment - they can work in an environment where they can flourish.
“And from the customers’ point of view, it makes them happy to know that the staff are going to look after them – that’s certainly the case when I look at the comments from customers at our Blackpool branch.”
Managing director Mark Adlestone spends time meeting people throughout the firm and in the past year he has been forthright about the performance of the business and encouraged everyone to pull together, letting colleagues know the firm can’t succeed without them.
All of the executive and senior team follows Adlestone’s example in spending time in stores and at head office in talking and listening to colleagues.
The Top 100 report added: “Staff say the training they receive is of great personal benefit to them and that their jobs are good for growth.
