A TATTOO studio has made its mark on Blackpool, as well as hundreds of happy customers.

Owners of Hello Sailor! tattoo studio have won awards and already had to expand their premises after only two years of trading.

The studio, which moved to King Street, Blackpool, at the end of August, was part financed by a grant from enterprise scheme Get Started and Blackpool Council in 2010.

It moved from its first shop on Church Street to cater for a growing number staff and customer base.

Owners Chelsea Bishop and Kat Wilson were the last business in Blackpool to receive a £1,500 grant to set up their studio.

And Chelsea, 30, who has been tattooing people for three and a half years, said: “The business has been a learning curve but we get to do what we love every day.

“We loved having a project to work on when we first set up and we wanted another project.”

And the team are respected enough to have been asked to provide images and facts about safe tattooing by Blackpool Council in the last month.

Following the news of a 15-year-old boy found with tattoo equipment administering tattoos on himself and friends the studio was asked to work with high schools in the resort.

Hello Sailor! has been working with the council to demonstrate to teens the importance of not being reckless and the dangers of getting a tattoo in an unhygienic and unlicensed environment.

Chelsea said she and Kat, 28, who recently won the Portrait Award at the Manchester Tattoo Convention, are working to change the way people think of tattooing, both in and outside of Blackpool.

She said: “When we go to tattoo conventions people can be a bit stand offish about a tattoo parlour from Blackpool, the town has a really bad reputation for tattooists who just open for the tourist trade.

“We want to change peoples perceptions of tattooing in the resort.”

The new studio now also houses piercer Sean Powell, who has been piercing in Blackpool for ten years, and Romanian Tini, another experienced tattoo artist.
