Its all change at Tangerine Confectionary as a new chief executive is appointed after a review of business which has led to six compulsory redundancies and the closure of its factory shop at Vicarage Lane, Blackpool.

Benoit Testard, who was appointed at a non-executive director in October, is now to move into the chief executive position from March.

One of Europe’s leading confectionery companies, it has five factories including one on Clifton Road, and employs 350 in Blackpool producing Mojos chews, Taveners fruit drops, fudge and high boiled sweets. It announced consultation on staff positions in December to modernise and restructure its business.

Steven Joseph, currently chairman of the group will
assume the position of interim CEO in order to maintain the momentum of Tangerine’s investment plans for 2014.

The appointment follows the departure of Graham Hunter at the start of 2014, who took a personal decision to leave the business after two years at the helm.

After joining United Biscuits in 1999 as MD of its French business, Testard took charge of its Northern European operation in 2001, went on to become MD of its UK business in 2004, and took the role of CEO for the UB Group in 2011. He also worked at Reckitt and Colman and
Fromageries Bel Group.

Steven Joseph, chairman of Tangerine, said: “Benoit Testard is an outstanding appointment for Tangerine. He brings deep experience in FMCG in the UK and Continental Europe and a track record of great success.”

Mr Testard said: “Having been introduced to the world of Tangerine as a non-executive director, I am thrilled to become chief executive.

“Tangerine has a powerful position in the confectionery sector and owns some of its best-known brands. I look forward to working with the 1,500 strong team here to grow the company further.”
